JSP Donates Hard Hats and Ear defenders to DIY SOS: The Big Reveal in Cheltenham

JSP is proud to continue donating safety helmets to the DIY SOS team. The past couple of weeks, the team was in Cheltenham to help the Chapman family.

The Chapman family have been living in difficult circumstances and need the team’s assistance to make their bungalow more suitable for their needs.

Both Mother, Sarah and Daughter, Suzanna have the condition myotonic dystrophy. It is a long-term genetic disorder which affects muscle function. Recently, their daughter Margaret who also had myotonic dystrophy passed away.

The family has also taken in Peter’s 64-year-old autistic brother after their mother passed away a few years ago.  Peter began construction on an extension to accommodate the family’s growing needs. Unfortunately, time and money had run out. The DIY team was able to step in and give the family the home of their dreams.

We were able to see the family’s reaction on the big reveal day. To say the family were pleased is an understatement. They were overwhelmed with emotion on the result of their home. Although it had rain for most of the morning, it did not affect the reaction of the family.

The weather threatened the build as  Storm Ciara, and Storm Dennis nearly took out the back garden. The team was forced to only concentrate on the inside of the home.

Storm Dennis thus made the deadline for Thursday, February 20 tight.

Fortunately,  the team and family stayed optimistic, and the deadline was met.

The reveal day was met with many members of the community and volunteers showing their support for the Chapman family. It was a pleasure to witness the very positive reaction of the family, as well as the community, pull together to make a dream come true for a more than deserving family,
